Working together for smarter winter maintenance and cleaner Pennsylvania waters
Why Salt Reduction Matters
Each winter, thousands of tons of road salt are spread across Pennsylvania to keep our roads, sidewalks and parking lots safe. But that salt doesn’t just disappear. It washes into our streams, rivers, and groundwater, threatening drinking water, harming wildlife, corroding infrastructure, and damaging the landscapes we depend on.

Who we are:

Pennsylvania Road Salt Action is a statewide network of professionals and volunteers advocating for the reduction of road salt usage in Pennsylvania. We provide advocates with the tools they need to keep roads safe while protecting water, infrastructure, and ecosystems.
Our Mission
Protect water quality
by reducing chloride pollution.

Promote smarter winter maintenance
that balances safety and sustainability.

Support advocates
with tools, resources, and connections.
